Sam Simpson was one of the founding members of the HLRC and our third president. In his time, he was one of the most influential members of the club, introducing us to day rallies and epic adventures. He was extremely organized and skilled at both preparation of expedition vehicles and driving in off-road conditions. Many of the current club members got their first introduction to off-road driving at a "Columbus event", which Sam had virtually taken over and ran on behalf of the local dealership , using club members as course marshals. And his boundless energy and enthusiasm attracted many to the Club.

He was the club representative at two "Adventure Team Challenge" events, a Camel Trophy style inter-club event , winning the first and coming second in the second! He also singlehandedly organized and lead the famous "La Ruta Maya" expedition, where a small group drove their Rovers overland through Mexico to Guatemala and Belize.

He was a strong-charactered Englishman, who knew the right way to do things, in his hobby with Rovers and his professional life as a craftsman wood furniture builder and restorer. He was always happy to give his advice to all he asked, and for this we will be always grateful.

And will keep him in our memories fondly

This is just a reminder that Sam's family could really use your support.
