We left Houston about 0430 in the morning on Friday and drove through Hurricane Katrina until we got to the Lake Conroe area, we arrived at
Gilmer around 1000, we drove out to Camp Mabey and it seemed to be full
so we back tracked to Camp Toyota and had a choice site. My father and
I set up camp and hit the trails about 1100, I started off safe and by
the end of the day I got brave and decided to do Houston creek trail
alone, it was smooth sailing until the last 100 feet of the trail when
I put my self in a roll-over situation. I parked the truck and we had
to build a rock bridge for my rear tires, note: my front left tire was
5 feet in the air the entire time, after completion of our stone bridge I crossed the bridge and made it to camp and had multiple drinks! Early
Saturday morning we set out to the rally point and was in-line with I
believe Sam and the other (2) extremely old rovers and Chris and a few
others, we got to witness the old rover wagon almost taking out a tree
and almost falling down the hill, this made for some very good photos.
Afterwards we hit a few more trails and then had lunch. After lunch we
went back to camp and got some provisions and set back on the trails
alone. I decided to play on the twister and eventually knocked off my
rear bumper so I deployed the Duct tape technology and was sitting
pretty-ish! We went down Shake, rattle and roll and then the real
damage set in, I busted what I thought at the time was my CV-shaft
front left then decided to take it easy-ish, well we met up with (4)
other disco's who like to drive fast down Sunday cruise and we were all
airborne shortly after and shortly after that we forded a small reek
that gave (1) Disco lots of trouble, engines do not like water to
breathe I gather, well we towed him up the trail and then I slid and
hit a tree and ripped off my left rear fender flair and some piece of
plastic in the rear quarter panel, but no body damage, so I was happy.
Due to the trend of damage that was setting in we decided to head out
late Saturday, we were ok on the road until Buffalo, my truck was
vibrating extremely bad, we got into H-town safely. Truck repair
report: Sunday I completely broke down my front end, shafts and chunk
and no damage, so Monday I pulled my transfer case (problem) the
bearing in your transfer case where your transmission goes into looked
like lunch meat, the transfer case does not seem to have any other
issues. I have a spare transfer case with the CDL, I will match parts
and order new seals and bearings. I hope to install by next week, thank
God for LQK or LKQ parts distributors in Houston, I bought a transfer
case with CDL for $300 bones with 66K miles. Well I hope to be up and
running in a few weeks.
