Moab, Utah/Bill Burke '04 Trip - Page 9

Saturday, April 3rd, 6:47AM

We made it to Childress, TX. Trying to save a few bucks, we stayed at the Budget Inn. Doug was not too happy that there was not a coffee maker in his room, but they do have a Coke machine for me! Life is Good.

We're at the Kettle in Childress. For some reason, they have an open wireless connection. Not only that, but it's blistering fast.

Angie is still in denial about the door ding she put in my car. Perhaps the guilt will be too much for her and she will admit it. She says I am on her "no-talk list." I'd rather be on her "I'm not going to door ding your car list."

Poor Sherman. Josh rips the hinges off the back door a month or so ago, my dog craps in it, and now Angie door dings it...

Anyway... today's plan is to make it home... we figure by 2:30PM or 3:00PM.

"I'm going to Wichita..." Wichita Falls that is.

We made it to Wichita Falls, TX, and I am glad to see the price of gas has come down to a "reasonable" price. $2.10 per gallon in Moab was a bit steep.

Kai popped up on chat while we were heading down the road, so those guys made it home OK. Steve-O called and they are on their way back from the Grand Canyon with no problems, and we're still rolling as well.

We did see some camels in a field, but we didn't feel like turning around for pictures; you'll have to take my word for it.

Onward!

Saturday, April 3rd, 11:45AM

Well, it took us until Fort Worth, TX, to get lost. Not really lost, but misdirected. A quick conversation on the side of a side road and we were back on track:

(I hope you are keeping up with the Alice's Restaurant references...)

After finding our way, we stopped for some food:

Last stop (I hope).

Gas tank full, Houston about 2 hours away. We're in Buffalo, TX, though I have not seen any Buffalo.

Here's what wild flowers look like at 72mph:

Here's what Big Sam looks like at 72mph:

Here's what a fat bug looks like at 72mph:

My turn to drive again...

Saturday, April 3rd, 3:03PM

Doug's wife called from Vietnam on my cellular phone because he lost his in Moab, so we're on the side of the road so he can talk to her. We're not on the side of a side road this time though; we're on the side of 45. 102 miles to home!

Saturday, April 3rd, 4:50PM

Home. Finally.

I'm assuming it is going to take all day tomorrow to get all of the dust and dirt and other bits of unmentionables out of my car:

O well, I guess that'll give me something to do...

My dog is ready for his bed too... I think he has had enough:

I guess this is the part where I am supposed to sum it all up. Hard to sum it up in a few words, so I will sum it up with one--AWESOME!!!

Thanks for coming along on our trip!

The End!
