Moab,
Utah/Bill Burke '04 Trip - Page 8
Friday, April 2nd, 8:01AM
(7:01AM Colorado time).
We're up. Well, I'm up.
We left Moab yesterday evening after
a nutritious dinner at Pizza Hut--family special, $20.49.
Our plan was to drive to Durango, CO,
and find a place to camp. We stopped at several areas
where the signs said National Park Access, but we didn't
find anywhere...
though I am not really sure we looked too hard.
We
were all pretty exhausted--my feeling is, any excuse
to stay in a hotel was a good one. Besides, the
weather was supposed to be stormy, and we were at 8000'.
We ended up staying at a Super 8. They
guy behind the counter gave us a sweet deal--$35. I
can handle that. No pets though... Compaq had to stay
in the car, but he didn't get sick, WOO HOO!
There
is another storm rolling in, so we are preparing
to head out. Special
Ed has his sugar-covered donut and I have my coke.
Josh talked to Ken on the cell last night,
apparently they made it to Tucumcari, NM, and were
trying to make it into Amarillo (by morning...).
Hopefully we'll make it as far. Ciao for now...
Friday, April 2nd, 11:20AM (10:20AM
New Mexico time).
We just left the Donut Depot
in Chama, NM. We're driving into one hell
of a head wind again and averaging a whopping 50
mph. "Spec" (Sergio's shortened version
of "Special Ed") is driving while I am typing and
going through a gazillion
emails I downloaded.
Maybe I'll take a nap!
Friday, April 2nd, 11:56AM (10:56AM
New Mexico time).
OK, apparently this guy was thinking
the same thing (the nap). We pulled up on this pretty
darned soon after it happened. As bad as it was, we
really expected to see someone really hurt or dead;
luckily, the kid driving the
car was OK... like Doug said, "Airbags work."

Continuing on...
Friday, April 2nd, 2:06PM (1:06PM
New Mexico time).
We're just about at Cline's Corner. There
ain't much going on. Well, rain:

I'm also bored:

Hey, what do you know? We're at Cline's
now!
Friday, April 2nd, 5:24PM (4:24PM
New Mexico time).
Rain rain rain:
But, we have seen a couple of rainbows:
We're continuing to press on. We just
left Tucumcari, NM, after devouring several hamburgers
and various combinations of ice cream and candy at
the Dairy Queen/Texaco.
The only highlight has been Josh almost
getting run off the road by some 104 year old retiree
driving a motor home that I can only assume he'll
die in (because if he drives like that in Texas, someone
is going to kill him).
OK, there's another highlight: between
Ed and my dog, I am going to die from gas poisoning...
The plan is to make it to Wichita Falls,
TX. We just crossed into Texas! I don't see it happening...
I'll keep you posted...
