Tuesday, March 30th, 8:53PM
(7:53PM Utah time).
We're at our camp (N38° 46.129' W109° 22.138').
Today was another amazing day. We got
started around 9:30 this morning after a very cold
evening. It dipped below freezing because the water
in Josh's dog's bowl was frozen. But, it quickly warmed
up. It got up to 94° according to my temperature
gauge in my truck.
The guys from LRO actually left last
night. They were on their way to Route 66 with the
new Range Rover. They did take many many pictures,
so I am looking forward to their article.
We had to travel several miles on a dirt
road today and ended up getting up to 40-50 mph. We
traveled to a place where there were dinosaur tracks
just out there in the open on a trail called Klondike
Bluffs Trail:
I'll
tell you my thoughts: pictures of Land Rovers driving
over rocks and obstacles is neato and all, but the
views we saw today were absolutely amazing. How about
I show you a few of the pictures on the way to the
sites, then show you what we saw:
From there we drove to a place called
Little Eva Mine (in the yellow cat area):
Our next stop at was at a place called
Cowboy Arch. Once we left the mine, Bill Burke took
us out in the middle of nowhere, showed us where
we needed to go on the topo map, and drove off. Sergio,
Special Ed and I were in charge of the maps, GPSs and
mapping software. The problem was that not all of the
little dirt roads we on the maps, but we made it there
and passed Bill Burke's little test with flying colors.
Here's where he led us:
We then traveled to a place called Dome
Plateau:
OK, OK, I know some of you want to see
some Land Rovers in action. Well, in order to get
to our camp site, we had to travel up "Try
Again Hill:
Tomorrow, we head out early. We are going
to go to a river crossing and and do a night run tomorrow
night.
I'm going to eat some of Kai's fajitas
and Doug's salmon.
Until tomorrow...
