September 1st,
2004 Monthly Meeting at Jax
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by the
President, Ken Mendez. Introductions were made of all
members in attendance. There were several new members
in attendance. A list of the members in attendance
is attached hereto as Exhibit “A.”
Ken explained that the input from the Houston Land
Rover Club (“HLRC”) members is very important.
The HLRC markets itself, has supportive vendors, the
members have a wealth of knowledge and they try to
include varied activities so that all members can participate.
Past activities have included numerous trips to Gilmer,
Texas, Cosmo’s Big Adventure, a trip to Moab,
monster garages and a picnic at Memorial Park. Future
adventures in the works include a trip to the Land
Rover plant in England and trips to Big Bend, South
Padre, Arkansas and Mexico.
Ken also reported that Dr. Josh and Angie Gorman
had made the cover of International Land Rover magazine
and several members have their pictures in Land Rover
magazine.
Ken introduced Bill Mallin “Web Dood” to
the new members. Bill reported that the club’s
website has had about 40,000 hits and that the club
has approximately 160 members of which 70 – 80
members are active.
Steve McDonald updated the members on the trip to
England scheduled for November 2004. Steve reported
that he has not received a lot of feedback or support
from Land Rover North America and he has received conflicting
information regarding tours of the Land Rover plant.
He will continue to research information needed for
the trip.
Sergio Sosa updated the members on the trip to Big
Bend. There are two parks – a state park and
a national park. Most of the land is privately owned.
Sergio reported that there are seven trails, of which
one is not maintained. The Thanksgiving holiday is
the target for this trip. Sergio will continue to research
information needed for the trip.
Ken reported that the AGM is scheduled for November.
There are five positions open for reelection. Club
members need to decide whether they want to run for
office. Members who seek a position on the board should
contact Ken by the first or second week of October.
The new officers will be elected at the AGM. Ken reported
that, in the past, the AGM has been held on the first
Wednesday in November, but wanted to know if the members
were interested in changing the date from the first
Wednesday to the first Friday of November. The members,
by show of hands, voted unanimously to move the date
to the first Friday of November. Lance Sloan has generously
offered the use of the Renaissance Hotel for the meeting
location. Ken announced that because of the change
to Friday, there will not be a Wednesday night meeting.
Ken announced that he has been approached by the
Mexican Consulate and they would like to attend a HLRC
meeting to discuss four-wheeling in Mexico.
Ken reported that several people were making a trip,
over Labor Day, to Cline Ranch. Cline Ranch is near
San Antonio. Melissa Burns offered to send Bill the
information for posting on the website.
After door prizes were awarded (see Exhibit B for
a list of the winners and what was won) the meeting
adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
